| Now is the best time to start preparing you home for the upcoming hurricane season. Hurricane season starts June 1st and runs
until November 30th. |
Here are some simple steps you can take to prepare yourself:
- Make a plan - discuss the hazards that could effect you and your family.
- Secure your home - Install storm shutters or get enough plywood to secure your home.
- Locate a safe room - A safe room is the saftest room in your home away from windows that could shatter durring a hurricane.
- Determine escape route from your home and places to meet.
- Be sure to trim trees ans shrubs. Pick up loose objects in your yard that could become projectiles during a storm.
- Clear loose and clogged drain cutters and downspouts.
- Stock up on non-perishable emergency supplies.
- Be sure to have a radio and batteries handy.

General Hurricane Supplies |
- Water - at least 1 gallon daily per pperson for 3 to 7 days
- Food- Enough for 3 - 7 days, non-perishable packaged or canned, food for infants, snack foods, non-electric can opener, cooking tools, fuel, paper plates, plastic utensils
- Blankets / Pillows
- Clothing - rain gear, sturdy shoes
- First Aid Kit, Medicines, Prescription Drugs
- Flash Light and Batteries
